Guitar Workshop

Gulf Coast Rhythm and Blues

Old Town School of Folk Music, Chicago
Sunday Feb 26, 2012   2pm

When it comes to early R&B and rock ‘n roll, we can think of the Gulf Coast of Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi as the Garden of Eden.   This region produced artists such as Fats Domino, Freddy Fender, Bruce Channel, Betty Everett and the great Aaron Neville.   In 1967 Neville recorded “Tell It Like It Is” which soared to the top of the charts and is now regarded as one of the iconic songs that shaped rock ‘n roll.  Guitar fingerstyle arrangements really highlight the slow, rich, bluesy feel and strong melodies of songs like this.  We’ll learn a couple of instrumentals where we blend the melody, rhythm and chords together to give a full sound.  Blaise will guide you through each song using some bar chords, emphasizing technique, style and tips; all following tab notation.  If you aren’t a singer, but just want to build your guitar skills …this is for you.  For intermediate or advanced fingerstyle players who want to expand their repertoire.
