Guitar Workshop

Fingerpicking 60’s Classic Ballads

Old Town School of Folk Music
Chicago, Sunday Feb 24, 2013     2pm

Let’s learn a couple of 60’s classics. “Green Green Grass of Home” attracted dozens of artists who recorded and performed it, ranging from Joan Baez and Johnny Cash to Jerry Lee Lewis.  This is a beautiful rolling melody with very moving lyrics.   We’ll also learn another classic – “Wasted Days and Wasted Nights” by the Texas Rock-a-billy legend Freddy Fender; with a slow bluesy melody it became a million seller.

By learning instrumental arrangements of these songs we will blend the melody, rhythm and chords together to give a full instrumental solo sound.  Blaise will guide you through each song using some bar chords, emphasizing techniques, hammer-ons and pull offs, style and tips; all following tab notation.  If you aren’t a singer, but just want to build your guitar skills …this is for you.  For intermediate or advanced fingerstyle players who want to expand their repertoire.
