Guitar Workshop
Rock 'n Roots Fingerpicking
Old Town School of Folk Music
4544 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago
Move forward by looking back! The Rock songs of the 50’s were often very melodic, with obvious blues and R&B influences. Performers such as Johnny Burnette , Ivory Joe Hunter, The Orioles and Freddy Fender helped to define the early rock sound that went on to inspire other performers in the 60’s, 70’s and on. Blaise will take you through a couple of fingerpicking instrumental arrangements of classic 50’s and 60's hits, note by note, using tab. We'll focus on the Betty Everett hit, "You're No Good". This may be challenging, but will expose you to new techniques for sliding & slurring notes and maintaining a bass theme. And you’ll learn how using that left-hand little finger can make all the difference. Here's an example - “You’re Sixteen” . For intermediate or advanced fingerpicking students who want to expand their repertoire.
