Kamaka ukelele rehab - Before
I was given this "project" ukulele by my wife's nephew, PJ. The joints were separated and there were multiple cracks on the top and back. The cause for all this failure was apparent - the maker extended all of the cross braces to make contact with the sides. So, when the braces expanded over time, the top and back were forced sideways and split open. Poor construction. I enjoyed rehabbing this; a good Corona virus project. I reworked the bracing, reglued the bridge, fixed the cracks and refinished the top. Now my wife Kathy has a fourth ukulele, below.

1959 Harmony
This 1959 Harmony was left in a hot garage for a few years. A brace fell off inside, the top collapsed and the bridge broke. It was unplayable. I removed the top, reattached the brace and made other repairs to cracks, etc. Now it's playable and actually has great action. I donated the guitar to the Old Town School Shop
Vintage Ukelele
1920's Le Domino: I found this old, made in Chicago, uke in a vintage guitar shop. (My wife is learning to play). It was in terrible shape, top cracked into two pieces, no tuners, bridge falling off, neck loose, etc. I repaired and restored it to playing condition. Sounds good, but mostly it's great kitsch.
Tatay
Tatay Guitar: I believe this was made in the late 50's, early 60's. The label on the inside says "made in Spain", and Tatay was a well known maker in that period. I found it for sale cheap in a small cafe in St. Francisville, Louisianna. It was in pretty bad shape with a badly bowed top, bridge pulling up and some cracks. I repaired/rehabbed it. It's light as a feather, with a deep mellow tone. Very nice.
