Guitar Workshop

Fingerstyle Instrumentals

Saturday April 2, 2016   2pm

Let’s learn a real classic - “Dream a Little Dream of Me” by Fabian Andre, Wilbur Schwandt with lyrics by Gus Kahn. Written in 1930, this song was an immediate hit and was resurrected many times over the years, most famously by Mama Cass of the Mamas and Papas.  In 1968 her version of this became a huge hit all over again. And this song has been recorded by sixty other artists!  It has staying power because it has a beautiful, lilting melody and can be played in so many styles; it can be very expressive.

We’ll also learn an early Betty Everett rock classic - “You're No Good” (see my March 14, 2010 listing), listen also to the terrific Dee Dee Warwick version.

Blending melody, rhythm and chords together gives a full instrumental solo sound. We’ll learn these classic songs this way using fingerstyle techniques.  Blaise will guide you through each song emphasizing techniques and style - hammer-ons and pull offs, slides and slurs; all following tab notation.  If you aren’t a singer, but just want to build your guitar skills and repertoire …this is for you.

Intermediate or advanced fingerpicking, and bar chord ability required.
