Japanese Folk Songs for Guitar

Old Town School of Folk Music, Chicago

Three session class Saturdays:  1 pm   May 5, 12 & 19    2018

Japanese folk songs of the 1800's were written for traditional instruments of the time. These songs have subtle, but beautiful haunting melodies. And they sound wonderful on the guitar.  Each week students will learn melodies for one or two instrumental songs using tab notation. Some songs will be fairly easy, and others more challenging. Blaise will review songs from the previous class, giving students a chance to ask for additional help.

The emphasis will be on fingerpicking, using efficient fingering positions and techniques that can also be applied to other styles of playing.  Proficiency with bar chords and use of tab notation will be helpful. Fingerpicking style will be taught, but flat picking can also be used.

The is a chance to learn something different and expand your repertoire.    For intermediate to advanced players.
